"Rod is halfway up the rock face when he hears an eerie buzz, as if swarms of bees are gathering on the mountain. The hair on his arms stands up and for a brief moment an instinct courses through his body, warning him that something is about to happen. Then out of nowhere flares a burst of heat and light and a deafening noise, making it seem that the very mountain itself is trembling. The bolt of lightning scorches the air, striking the narrow ledge above him.

"Suddenly everything is black and Rod is spinning around, falling. He doesn't know what's happened. He only knows he's going to die."
